Zero-Click Search

Zero-click search is any search that ends without a click to a website because the results page or AI answer resolved the query directly.

Zero-click search is any search that ends without a click through to a website, because the query was resolved directly on the results page by a featured snippet, knowledge panel, map pack, or AI-generated answer.

How it works

Search engines and AI assistants increasingly answer questions in place. The user gets the answer, the engine keeps the session, and the source websites may receive a citation but not a visit. The share of zero-click searches has grown steadily as AI Overviews and chat-based search expand into more query types.

Why it matters

Zero-click does not mean zero value, but it changes what visibility is worth measuring. Brand mentions and citations inside answers influence buyers who never visit the site, which is why share of model and citation tracking now sit alongside traffic in serious measurement frameworks. Strategies that only count clicks undercount the brand's real search presence. Learn more about our marketing measurement.
